STILL A MAJOR WORK IN PROGRESS, MANY THINGS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE, ILL BE MAKING MAJOR CHANGES THROUGH THE WEEK
"We do not back down."- Grand Chancellor Leodun
Formal Name: United Federation of Red Sun Systems Informal Names: The Red Federation. Abbreviation: UFS Population: 29 Billion Humans (26 Billion are genetically enhanced natives of the Red Sun) 2 Billion Identified as Not Human
Technology Tags: Nuclear Power: Standing on equal ground in the inter-galactic arena has become a priority for the Federation, including their nuclear capabilities. Large groups of scientists were re-directed in order to provide the best arsenal and best protection possible by the federation in case of a nuclear exchange. Highly secretive, the scientists of the Department of Special weapons head these arms race operations.
Elite Forces: With the increase of population of the Federation, the military has grown exponentially, and has had to revisit and completely overhaul the old traditions of the Red Sun Imperium. However, what didn’t change was the superior training and equipment given to the Special Forces groups of the old empire, alongside the rigorous training given to any soldier who joins the Federation Military. Soldiers born on Olympus go through a rigorous training starting at a young age and are given the best augments the Federation can provide. This special training and elongated service means that the Federation Special Forces are often unrivaled in terms of training and sheer physical capabilities. Most Olympus born soldiers are usually the best the Federation has to offer.
Cybernetics: The obsession of cybernetics has persisted through the horrors of the war many decades passed. With the exponential growth of the population, the only group guaranteed superior augmentation are those born of the Red Sun (Olympus born-natives). The more augmentation you are able to afford/endure, the higher in society you are viewed. Many social elites in the colonies or the system of Olympus often endure more ascetically hidden procedures to look more human. Joining the military is one way you can get garunteed augmentation, and the higher rank you are the more extensive modification you can receive, with special forces being the pinnacle of cybernetic enhancement.
Stealth Systems: With such an emphasis on their ability of the Federation's elite commandos, the development of advanced stealth technology has been key to their success. With progress made towards both ground and space stealth operations, the Federation's ability to stay hidden has become one of its greatest strengths.
Military Industrial Complex: The United Federation of Systems profits off of war. The biggest export of the Federation is weapons, armor, warships and combat capable drones. A large portion of the GDP the Federation rakes in goes directly to the Military and developing new military technologies. With the new introduction of capitalist ideas into the society, coupled with lack of restriction, the war industry has exploded, generating heavy revenue for the Federation.
Species:
Human: Mostly human, many of the people within the Federation, especially those who served find themselves easily able to get augmentation. Some might say they are barely human, especially with all of the self-modification. However, it means these men and women of the Imperium are resistant to many diseases, and can live on average past 150 years old, showing very little organ failure and weakness until their last 25-30 years.
Citizens of the Red Sun: Those that are born within the dominion of the Red Sun (Olympus and it’s moon Aeaea) are engineered to be genetically superior, and they are also augmented with neural and muscular cybernetics, making them, on average, smarter and more capable than the rest of humanity.
Shawktae: A reptilian species much stronger and faster than your average human, the Shawktae were discovered already living on the planet Olympus when the Imperium first colonized it. Their technological advances had just begun to reach space faring status, and they had colonized their moon, known to the RSI as Aeaea. Extremely violent, and short-sighted, the Shawktae are now welcome into the Federation as lower class citizens. Many serve in the Foreign Service in the military as a brutish assault force. They are still not allowed to return to their home planet.
Algrion: The Algion were one of the first interstellar nations to actively seek being absolved into the Imperium. Sharing their fascination with cybernetics and genetic engineering, and desiring the economic and security benefits from a larger nation, they willingly allowed themselves to become a colony of the Imperium. Due to this, they were allowed more freedoms to practice what they wished on their own planet, and Algion were placed on a higher pedestal than new colonists. After the introduction of the Federation, the Algion's military has completely assimilated into the Federation's, and they usually provide a support roll to the Federation's main forces. Highly intelligent, Algion seek profession in most scientific fields. They are of amphibian origin and many of their cities lie deep below the ocean beneath the super continents of their homeworld. They are bipedal with webbed feet and semi-webbed fingers. While they are able to breath both in and out of the water, extended periods of time removed from their amphibious homes and they develop extremely life-threatening diseases, thus you do not find many Algion's far from their own system, nicknamed New Babylon.
Culture: The culture of the Federation is that of national pride, order, and service. While not as restricting as the Imperium, the new government still sees heavy oversight on personal freedom for those not born on Olympus. The society revolves around the military industrial complex, and imperialist expansion is not only accepted, but encouraged.
With the collapse of the Imperium and the institution of the Federation, the culture of the society has changed massively. The population, increasing exponentially since the inclusion of the Mojave and Garden systems into their ranks. Culture has turned into a melting pot on the colonies while the dominion of the Red Sun has remained mostly isolated from its colonies. Red Sun born are able to travel freely, but colonists who have not achieved full citizenship are only allowed to travel between colonies.
Capital of the United Federation.
Full citizenship is only achieved by a lengthy military service of 10 years, and there is no guarantee that your military contract will last that long. Many colonists achieve what is known as partial citizenship, and that means they can hold office, vote, receive more government issued cybernetics and receive permits for all manner of economic advantages. To achieve partial military service, one must serve for four years or more, excluding any time spent training. The culture follows the military industrial complex ideal, with many supporting an aggressive form of expansion both in territory and politically. Many colonists flock towards the Federation for safety and the socialist benefits the UFS provides to its citizens and partial citizens. Civilians are often only given menial jobs on the colonies as part of the merchant navy or as asteroid miners and shaft miners.
Due to the complete dominance and favoritism of those who are born in the Red Sun System, there is a certain political tension constanly hanging over the colonies. The blatant unequal treatment of citizens has led to extremely active protest groups and resistance groups. These groups are often crack down on by The Inquisition. The Inquisition is a group of domestic law enforcement agents tasked with taking care of the larger and more prominent usurpers in the Federation. However, while the political protestors may be the loudest, the crime syndicates and drug rings are by far the most dangerous. The Inquisition also handles these large criminal organizations with brutal efficiency. However, despite the criminal activity and blatant political corruption, the Federation’s population remains mostly content. Many of the United Federation’s population live in great comfort and security. With a booming weapons funded economy, socialist benefits such as free health care and housing, a growing arts scene, and secure borders, the population has little to complain about. Political strife exists towards the feudal state of the Federation, but overall most of the population is happy with the government.
One of the best ways to gain status as a colonist in the Federation is by achieving a rank of an Officer in the armed services. This is either attained by attending one of the colonist service academies or by a military service rank with high amounts of merit.
Home life on Olympus is a particular one. Children born in the home system of Olympus or Aeanea live with their parents until the age of 10. After their 10th year of service, children are shipped off to one of the many service academies, and given basic schooling until the age 14. When young men and women of the Red Sun reach the age of 14, they are tested and given several options depending on their aptitudes. The first choice they must make is what military service academy they must attend, either that of the Army or the Navy. On very rare occasions are children offered invitations to either the Marine or Research academies. These two only take the best and most talented children to train to become the best warriors or brightest minds the Federation has to offer.
At the age of 21, after extensive training and military schooling, young men and women are deployed to the service of the UFS. After their service tenure is completed with the Federal military they are free to do what they wish. A majority either continue to work in the government in some capacity or another, while some move on to manage industry either at home or abroad. At any point in their careers all Federalists are capable are being summoned to re-join the military, and are expected to be physically capable of doing so.
Federal Chancellor of Foreign Affairs and Exploration.
Power: Great Power
Political System: Authoritarian, with hints of both Facism and Communism
The government is run by a small group of individuals indirectly voted in by a series of representatives similar to the electoral college. This group is called The Directory and they oversee and manage every extent of the federation.
The Red Sun Federation is defined by its ultra-nationalism and the government's heavy use of central planning.
Homeworld Name: Olympus
Homeworld Location: 03M
Homeworld Description: A planet slightly smaller than Earth, consisting temperate climates and covered with about 45% water at the surface, Olympus is thriving with fauna and animal life. However, the local animal and plant life is extremely hostile and aggressive. The singular moon, Aeaea, was also a capable of life, and had the environment of a thick rain forest. Most of the population is concentrated around very large megacities. Most of the cities have a large system of safety bunkers, capable of housing the entire population deep underground.
Colonies Under Your Species Control:
Mojave: 04N
The Barren Crest is known for the desert world Mojave, the only planet in the sector that holds anything of value. It was named Mojave after the Mojave Mining Corporation that initially colonized it. They had discovered large reserves of untapped metals below the planets surface and began extracting the resources. However, due to its remote nature, and the lack of investment made in protection, constant assaults from drug cartels and piracy had caused the company to lose a majority of its investments. It was not long before the company went bankrupt and decided to just pack up and leave the system altogether. When they, left, the scum of the universe took its place. For the last few decades the planet served as home to pirates, drug cartels, illegal arms dealers, terrorists, and criminals on the run. If you lived on Mojave and weren't apart of one of the huge criminal elements, you were probably an illegal slave for them.
That was until the Imperium arrived. Being a close, metal rich system made Mojave an ideal grab for the Imperium's first expansion, and they wiped the planet clean of the illegal rings occupying the planet. Hard crackdowns on criminal activity and blatant abuse of human rights caused for outcry in the interstellar realm, but many could not argue with the results. Within years of the economic expansion caused by the combined efforts of the Imperium and Commonwealth the colony of Mojave boomed with new immigrants and big business. Megacities seemed to spring up out of nowhere housing tens of millions of people in the desert wasteland.
When the Imperium dissolved and the Federation was created the government of Mojave was quickly on board with the new movement. They needed the police forces to keep the criminal element in check. Factories and huge mining shafts scatter the planet and it has turned into a melting pot of all types of aliens and foreigners seeking a fresh start. The planet has once again become a base of crime, however the Federation Military keeps a strong presence on the planet. This keeps the crime mostly from expanding beyond small pockets of resistance. Foreign Militias formed of alien species and humans alike fight with the Federation's army in order to secure their economic benefits of being a full or half-citizen in the new Mojave.
Mojave sits in the Goldilocks zone, however only about 2% of the planet is water, leaving most of the planet a barren desert. With a combination of rock formations and desert sand, Mojave expieriences heavy sandstorms on a regular daily basis, and to survive on the planet you must be living in a proper facility.
New Babylon: 03K
The Human Capital of New Babylon.
Located within the Maelstrom system, the planet known as New Babylon was home to the Algrion a quickly developing amphibious species that called the lush planet home. When the Imperium arrived the Algrion had slowly established themselves on nearby planets, with small space stations in their local system. But, were severly limited to their own system. The Imperium helped them grow and develop, at the price of becoming an imperial vassal. Soon colonists flocked to the lush tropical planet New Babylon. When the Federation was established the Algrion monarch quickly requested entry into the Federation, and the planet soon became a trading hub of luxury goods. Soon the Federation had grown and the planet held large cities on the small continents all over the planet, home to a more scientific set of pursuits. The Algrion live deep below the sea however many have joined with the Federation's research or military departments in order to see more of the galaxy. Many foreign traders and colonists find themselves here.
History:
History of the Imperium:
In 2350, a group of radical scientists and their followers cut their ties from the shackles of humanity in order to pursue the creation of the "perfect" human. Severing communications and taking with them millions of men and women who followed their idea of creating the perfect human, they ventured deep into space looking for a home to call their own. Stumbling upon Olympus far from Sol, the first Imperials stepped foot on their homeworld. Making a deal with the local population, the Shawktae, they were able to live in harmony for almost 50 years. The Shawktae learned much from the Imperium, and they worked well, the RSI providing them with new technology, while the Shawktae gave them protection in order to carry out their research.
The Shawktae leader, Ug'Thatcha
This peace was ended by a leader, Ug'Thatcha who was a radical in the eyes of the RSI. Using the technology they had been given, the Shawktae were united by Ug'Thatcha and began a war against the RSI. Unprepared, the RSI suffered extremely heavy losses for the first 10 years, and almost were completely wiped out. The Imperium was almost pushed off the planet completely before the tide began to turn towards their favor. War sped up the production of droids, and the progress of cybernetics. The creation of millions of cheap expendable droids, with the combination of genetically engineered supercommandos allowed the RSI to gain ground against their reptilian foes. The war lasted on Olympus for another 40 years, and the Shawktae were pushed onto Aeaea.
50 years of war created a new society. The RSI had created an army of droids numbered in the billions, and their soldiers and citizens alike were all genetically engineered to be extremely deadly. New AI were developed to micromanage the large amount of robotic military and was applied elsewhere in society. The Praetorian program was instituted to create a new breed of super soldier, and proved to be extremely efficient. 5 years of a cease fire existed.
Marines push towards a Shawktae stronghold during the invasion of Aeaea.
The RSI then launched a deadly offensive on Aeaea, lasting 30 more years this conflict was a push to remove the last Shawktae from the system. It was successful and the Imperium asserted themselves as a dangerous faction in intergalactic politics.
Fomation of the Federation:
After the great war, the Red Sun Imperium soon found itself with a great new deal of territory and a booming trade agreement with the Commonwealth of New Terra. However it didn't take very long for the cracks of the Empire to show, and many of the planets split from the Empire soon after they were taken. With a military spread way too thin, the Imperium pulled back and dissolved into a new governmental system, the United Federation of Red Sun Systems. The colonies of Mojave and Garden, two of the earliest Imperial conquers quickly opened their borders and trade and flourished under the more democratic society. While Garden and Mojave still answer directly towards the old Red Sun systems, the UFS enjoys a great deal of benefits from it's newly capitalistic system..
Military Specifications: The Great War proved the extreme efficacy of the Imperium’s super soldiers against the enemies they faced, however the lack of a sizable military meant any systems they had conquered were quickly undermanned and shower the Imperium expanded much too quickly without the man power. After most of the Imperium government collapsed, and the Federation took charge, the military received a complete overhaul. The force focuses on using surgical strikes made by elite special forces divisions to cripple and weaken the enemy where they can. Using larger conventional forces to eventually secure the weakened sector. The Navy however suffered exponentially. Experienced and extensively augmented fighter pilots proved must more efficient and much cheaper than the Imperium’s unmanned craft. Thus the Navy received a Star Corps division and an exponential boost in numbers. However the Navy still uses advanced AI and a large amount of drones to maintain the larger ships of the fleet. With the inclusion of Colonist forces, the military had to change rapidly. Soon the idea of Planetary Armies developed. With the military needing extra manpower, the Federation allowed colonists who served to achieve partial-citizenship or full citizenship. These volunteers quickly were organized in to respective planetary forces, depending on where they are from, with the Dominion being at the top of the chain, putting elite forces into each division. The Federation Navy was also organized into three planetary fleets. The United Federation military is organized into three main branches. The Federation Navy, The Federation Ground, and the Federation Intelligence Division.
Military Composition:
United Federation Navy:
The Federation Naval Force: The Federation Naval Force or FNF has undergone one of the most extensive changes coming from the conversion from the Red Sun Imperium. The Navy now is the main offensive workforce and primary response unit for the entire Federation. It, alongside the rest of the UFS has grown incredibly large in size. Many personnel now fill the role as fighter pilots or as on board workers. While the Federation’s ship AI can handle most of the tasks, it has mostly been replaced by a human workforce within the starships. The onboard enlisted personnel go through four regular years of training before being assigned a post while officers must attend at least eight years of training before being even considered for a post. Even then most of the officers must continue training planet side or on a space station before they are even considered getting assigned to a proper ship. Most officers are selected from either the Red Sun system, or highly skilled colonists. It is very rare to find a higher ranking officer that hasn’t been born on either Olympus or Aeaea.
The Federal Navy is organized into several large Carrier Strike Groups. These groups are capable of transporting, and maintaining a full fledged Federal Marine force for an extended period of time, while still maintaining space superiority over the planet.
The Federal Marine Force: A much more selective than the federation Army, the Marine force only allows men and women who achieve high on physical and aptitude battery tests to even consider putting them through training. Each Marine is given a grueling five years of extra training including ship-to-ship boarding, zero gravity combat, and planetary drop procedures. These are your career fighters. They are given heavy amounts of augmentation drugs and cybernetic implants and on average stand well above six feet. Very rarely are Marines discharged and often times most Marines serve their entire lives. Marines are combat capable only, and are not self-sufficient. During ground operations the Federal Marines are supported in any non-combative way by the Federation Naval Logistics Corps and the Federal Navy Stellar Corps.
Federal Marine Commando Battalion: These Marines are picked only from the best the Marine force has to over these are the tier one direct action fighters. The first in and the last out, these Marines are given an extra year of training in order to be able to fight effectively in any given environment. These units are often the ones utilized to handle problems that require a quick response. Each battalion is usually stationed aboard a smaller ship which they use a platform to grav-jump onto a planet’s surface. Once on planet they are tasked with setting up footholds to which more Marines or Soldiers can deploy. Extensively augmented and genetically modified, these soldiers are much stronger, taller, and faster than their average human counterparts.
Praetorian Defense Initiative: Created after 10 years of the Shawktae war, the PDI was instated to create the most deadly super soldier. Ethically questionable, Praetorians are killing machines. Genetically engineered at birth, and taken imminently to a highly classified location on Olympus, Praetorians are literally raised from birth to be soldiers. Standing, on average, at about 7 feet tall, Praetorians are augmented to the point where they really are more machine then human. Trained in military strategy and tactics for 24 years, they are the best the Imperium has to offer. With an extremely high success rate, Praetorians operate in small teams carrying out vital surgical strikes on enemy forces. They are ruthless, efficient, and very deadly.
Department of Special Weapons: This division of the Navy handles all the Nuclear, Biological and chemical weapons contained by the Federation Navy. It is one of the most secretive branches of the Navy.
United Federation Ground Force:
United Federal Ground Force: The largest and most expansive force within the new Federation, the Ground Force acts both the policing and occupying power of the UFS. Taking men and women from all across the Federal domain, the bulk of the Ground Force may not be as well trained as their Marine brethren, they are still a very dangerous force. Consisting of mostly mechanized infantry and armor, there is a high focus on mobilization within the Ground Force's strategy. Able to deploy quickly to a conflict helps contain it. Regular soldiers of the Ground Force are expected to see at least a year of training before being assigned a unit and many get forced into retirement after two years unless they are able to keep up with the highly competitive atmosphere of the military.
Shock Assault Battalion: Akin to the Rangers of the 21st Century, these soldiers are much better trained than your average Army soldier. Utilized to secure high-value targets and areas, the Shock Troopers are some of most fearsome soldiers the ground forces has to offer. They are often seen as brazen and aggressive but it is merely a side affect of the extensive genetic manipulation and mechanical augmentation given to these soldiers. However aggressive or unruly they may seem, it does not diminish their organization and fluidity on the battlefield, and in a combat scenario, any soldier would be glad to have a Shock Battalion soldier beside them.
Pathfinders: More of a paramilitary unit rather than a fully organized battalion, Pathfinders deploy long before the commandos drop onto a planet's structural choke-points. Pathfinders work in conjunction with intelligence agents to find and prepare areas and governments for Federal intervention. This has a wide range of applications consisting of anything from scouting cities to arming insurgencies to distract the government. They act independent from the support of the main Federal force, although they work with the OMI on occasion. Their strength lies in their ability to blend in, so many recruits that pass through this system eventually end up with the Office of Military Intelligence. Much of what they do is classified and to even be considered for training they must pass a grueling trial on both Mojave, and then later Olympus. They are then trained for four years and sent all throughout the galaxy to support the Federal cause.
Office of Military Intelligence:
An OMI agent.
Consisting of some of the smartest and most disciplined, the OMI's goal is to gather information on artifacts, technology, customs, government and anything else they can discover regarding other space faring societies. The OMI holds command over the infamous PHANTOM division. PHANTOM Operatives are recruited from either the Naval or Marine academy, and occasionally from the ranks of the pathfinders. These Tier One Special forces units are trained extensively in both conventional and unconventional warfare, counter-terrorism, intelligence gathering, counter intelligence, assassinations, direct action, and a plethora of other skills. They operate for the most part with a very small Pathfinder detachment in order to support them. Their operations are usually highly classified. The OMI also works closely with all foreign ambassadors and several staff will always be seen close by in the international theater, either by directly advising, or silently watching.
The Federal Inquisition:
An Inquisitor
Highly devoted to the Federation, the Federal Inquisition is primarily tasked with keeping the peace within Red Sun space. These agents of loyalty are highly genetically enhanced, and rarely resemble a human being. They are ruthless and loyal to the Federation, and near brainwashed into their loyalty. While rarely seen out of Federal Space they will occasionally accompany an naval fleets to ensure the utmost loyalty and devotion to the Federation throughout space.
They also provide the recruits that supply the Federal Guard. They are a highly devoted, highly trained, and extremely loyal group of men who are sworn to protect the UFS government, and the ideas it stands for. They are never seen outside of Olympus unless to protect extremely high-profile government officials, or Inquisitors. Their Armor is ancient and mostly ceremonial power armor.

SHIELD Mark VI -
The SHIELD Mark VI is used exclusively by the Federation's Marine Corps. Highly Versatile, the Mark VI is a powered suit of armor that focuses on mobility and the highest rate of protection. The reason of its exclusive use by the Marine Corps is for several reasons. First, despite it technically being supported by an exo-skeleton, no human would be able to support the weight of this armor. The armor relies on the superior strength and reflexes employed by the extensively augmented Marines. Secondly, it requires a Neurological Interface that allows the user to communicate directly with the armor as if it was another muscle.
TOWER Mark VIII
Designed for the less augmented soldier of the Army, the Mark VIII offers slightly less protection for a similar amount of protection as its previous version. It also requires a Neural Interface
EAGLE Mark II Flight Suit
GLADIATOR Mark III
Utilized by Praetorian super soldiers, this is the pinnacle of Federation stealth power armor. Offering high amounts of protection, high mobility, and a wide variety of stealth technology, this suit allows for Praetorians to operate with relative freedom in any battlefield.

Ground Vehicles:
PANTHER Transport: The standard ground transport used by the Federation, the panther is highly adaptable. Capable of being outfitted with anything from miniguns to AA weapons, the PANTHER is widely used by both the army and the marine force.
BEAR Armored Personnel Carrier: This armored vehicle can hold up to 10 soldiers comfortably and be outfitted with a wide variety of weapons.
EARTHQUAKE Mobile Artillery Platform: The United Federation's primary artillery platform, the Earthquake can be outfitted with heavy MAC weapons, explosive rounds, and even Anti-Aircraft.
TROJAN Transporter: The Trojan is often deployed during ground invasions. Capable of carrying 50 troops or droids, this ground vehicle is extremely large. The vehicle can also serve a number of other purposes, including a base of operations, a mobile triage center, a communications outpost, and even an artillery piece.
RHINO Heavy Tank: Used extensively by the Federation and the empire before it, the Rhino is an extremely hard hitting piece of machinery. Armed with a 180MM smoothebore gun, and an 8.8MM minigun on top, this is the Imperiums only tank. Doubling as a troop transport, this vehicle can also hold a squad of 6 Marines.
WOLVERINE Anti-Tank Mechanized Unit: The Wolverine is deployed by the United Federation as primarily a tank hunter. Highly mobile and unmanned, this mech is commonly seen deployed to support standard Marine and Army units. The Wolverine is armed primarily with a single Magnetic Acceleration Canon to target armored vehicles. The Mech is also armed with dual 8.8MM miniguns to target personnel and lightly armed vehicles.
TIGER Light Walker: Used mainly for recon and anti-vehicle purposes, the Tiger is a rare sight on the battlefield. Quick, but lightly armored, the Tiger is usually only used when needed. In packs they can be used to destroy heavier vehicles, however it is rarely advised. Tigers can be armed with anything from a minigun, to a Magnetic Acceleration Canon.
