The Castra System. Basically inhabitable, minus the 4th planet from the sun. A rocky, mountainous cold planet. Ninety percent of the planet's time spent rotation around the sun, the surface is covered in a permanent frost. Life is minimal, but the planet's atmosphere and air is mostly a combination of oxygen and nitrogen, so humans could settle on it. Several months ago the United Federation of Red Sun Systems appeared in this system. Slowly at first, but has grown exponentially recently. The reason? The planet serves as a graveyard to a battle between the former Imperium and their enemies from a war many years ago. The Federation, in order to secure their former holdings had established preliminary military outposts all around the planet, with scavenger teams in order to secure any workable tech from the planet.

However, recently, the Federation has began to install more aggressive military outposts on the surface on the planet in order to combat the foreign looters and treasure hunters that have flocked to the planet. There have also been sightings of the infamous Department of Special Weapons. There have been spikes of radioactivity on Castra IV's moon, and rumor is they are testing new forms of ISBMs.

Castra IV, North Western Hemisphere

Operational Sector 02, Wreckage Site Alpha Six-Nine

It was cold. The snow and ice crunched beneath Private Baccuias' boots as the Federal soldier trudged along the perimeter of the wreckage. The starship was ancient, and massive, almost 3 KM of frozen and twisted metal. It seemed to go on endlessly buried in this ice cavern about thirty miles away from Op two's headquarters. There were about one hundred or so soldiers here, and another two hundred and fifty support staff stationed around Wreckage Site Alpha Six-Nine, or just Alpha Nine for short. He spotted another squad making their way across the topside of the ship. Escorting a lifter by the looks of it. The soldiers all wore the standard issue TOWER armor, but painted white and gray to camouflage to the planet's pallet. Despite all of the advanced hardware, capable of protecting them against anything from plasma rounds to the vacuum of space, somehow this armor couldn't completely keep out the cold.

Or maybe it was just all in his head. Baccuias was born on Mojave, the second son of two prominent Federalists that moved to the Barren Crest System in order to establish the Federal government overseas. I guess it was fitting that he found himself on the frontier on the aspiring new fortress world of the United Federation of Red Sun Systems.

"Everyone hook up. We've got to get lower."

The Platoon's CO barked the order over the comms and motioned towards the ice ridge they had been walking along. Almost immediately the whole platoon began to grab their toolkits, and begin to "hook up" by placing a line on the top of the ridge, allowing them to rappel down the large ice wall.

The UFS had been searching this wrecks for a long time. Either salvaging tech they could, or destroying the tech they couldn't. As of late however, the planet began to take a new meaning. The Federal Army and Navy began to beef up the planetary defenses, began establishing more stable supply lines, and even began moving colonists to the planet in small numbers. This wasn't just a normal colony however. The citizen centers were all centered around the bases and military production sites, there was very little in terms of resource extraction except for that of the industries of war. And, bunkers were being built deep under the surface of the planet by the Corps of Engineers. This was the beginnings of a fortress world.

The tracks of the Rhino Heavy Tank kicked up all kinds of dust and rocks as it barreled towards the opening in the mountain. Eight power-armored figures clung to the side of the heavy vehicle. Their armor was black and they toted an assortment of small arms, ranging from the GR-29 AR to the GAR-75 SAW. They were the head of the pack, and they were being followed by more than two dozen more Rhinos, and an assortment of other armored carriers. They tanks rolled into a valley and slowed down as the Federal Marines dismounted and swung their rifles down into a readied position. The Alderacta Mountain Range wasn't a secure location. It was home to a native population of highly hostile natives known as the Saltec a highly violent arachnid-type alien. When the battle occurred that littered the Castra system with futuristic tech the Saltec could barely form writing, let alone maintain a heavy resistance. But, since they found the technology and since the recent invasion of the Red Sun, they had began to fight, and fight well. Someone was helping them. They were being guided, and the Red Sun was going to find out who.

The mountain range was like a hive for these violent creatures, and the Federals couldn't just bomb them out. The mountains went too deep, and it wouldn't have been a problem. However, these mountains were a gold mine for the lost tech littered all over the planet, and the upper echleons wasn't about to let that go over some xeno-savages.

"Rocket incoming!"

Captain Gaius dove out of the way before the rocket exploded beside one of the Rhino tanks in the column. Rounds split besides the officer's ears as he clambered towards the nearest cover he could find, a small boulder to his right. He looked up towards the ridge and spotted twenty, maybe thirty figures all firing down. The marines in his company had already started returning fire, and Gaius began barking out firing orders.

A loud resounding bang roared behind the marines as the Rhino fired its main gun at the ridge. Several of the figures were consumed in the fiery explosion. Rocks tumbled down the cliff face as the marines continued to fire on the enemies in front of them. The xenos barely stood a chance against the marines. Within thirty minutes the fighting was over and the Federalists kept rolling deeper into the mountain range.
